Cricket

I've always had dogs, mostly big dogs, German Shepherds, Labs, huge mix breed types. Most were somebody else's throw-aways. In 1995, when I began thinking
about adding another dog to my family, I wanted to choose a breed that would be a good fit for my lifestyle. I like to hike and kayak and spend time outdoors exploring and
although I liked a 'big dog' personality, I was really ready for a smaller sized dog. I wanted a dog that could run the beach, swim in the ocean and climb mountain trails.
I found a picture and description of an Australian Cattle Dog in an over-sized book
at the local library. 'Dogs of the World' described them as highly-intelligent, athletic, brave, and loyal....and less than 40 pounds. Sounded just about right to me! I copied the page from the book and tucked it inside my jacket pocket.

Cricket has many moods....stylish, trendy, sporty. She loves stockdog training ........HER way.
Here she is rolling in something smelly. One of her favorite diversions when she's not getting her way.
It was a few more years before an ACD found its way into my heart and home.
Cricket is the first dog I've ever owned bred to move livestock. She is the reason I
first set foot inside a round pen. And she is the reason I got my first Border Collie....
and the reason I leased a farm and bought a flock of sheep and the reason I feed a guard llama and drive a John Deere Gator .....and the reason, well, you get the picture, right?
Cricket as a puppy with one of her favorite friends,
our six foot long Green Iguana named Sam.
